I met this standard mainly through out of class research. I went and looked up the main elements and principles of design. The principles of design are defined as the way the artist or creator uses elements in a work. These elements include size, style, color pallet, materials, and atmosphere; while the principles include proportion, contrast, and balance. Another part that required external effort and research was the historical styles of architecture. Since the early 1600’s in America the there have been around fifteen main styles of building design for homes, and even more so for foreign regions and urban areas. Architectural design has varied based on location and climate factors, this is seen in the difference between the architecture of African people and the architecture of people in northern countries such as Russia and Sweden and changes over time in each location to better incorporate new ideas and inventions.
The steps of the Design process include Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction documentation, Bidding and Negotiation, and Construction. The first step is where the project parameters are set and the general scope is decided. The step of Design Development entails the Architect creating rough sketches and basic concept diagram, also the layout, size, and character of the project are determined. The plans, elevations and sections are created during this stage and are then verified and much of the design work is completed. The next stage entails the creation of blueprints and the implementations of finish materials, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures. The next two steps entail the financial piece and over watch of the creation of the design. I met this standard through outside research. I met the standard of Analyzing building sites in my class work. I analyzed building sites through the creation of my Revit model and by using the printed out blueprints blueprints and editing them to create my own type of house. The elements of sustainable architecture are summarized into the groups of Economy of resources, life cycle design, and humane design. The economy of resources is concerned with the reduction, reuse, and recycling of the natural resources used in the creation of a building. Life cycle designs provides a methodology for analyzing the building process and its impact on the environment. Humane design focuses on the interactions between humans and the natural world. I met this standard by researching these elements online. The considerations of universal design make it so everyone can access the same area regardless of their state of being. This is important because special pieces must be used for certain instances. I met this standard by researching the universal design online.
These standards have real world application because later in life when I become an architect i will need to be able to create buildings that are accessible to everyone, are somewhat environmentally friendly, and be able to correctly analyze and create them. my future learning goals for these standards are to incorporate them into my designs as a growing architect in order to accel while learning other steps and procedures to be an architect.
